Established in 1902 in Howrah, West Bengal, by A N Turner and A N Wright, Shalimar Paints is one of India and South-East Asia's oldest paint companies. It set up South-East Asia's first large-scale paint manufacturing plant in Howrah. Shalimar Paints has a history of pioneering industrial coatings technology in India, including high-build zinc coatings, radiation-resistant coatings, and polyurethane paints for aircraft and railway coaches. The company boasts a pan-India sales and distribution network with 30+ depots servicing over 5,000 dealers. It operates four redistribution centers strategically located across India (East, West, North, and South) and has additional manufacturing units in Nashik (1992), Sikandrabad (2002), and Chennai. Shalimar Paints' iconic structures painted include the Rashtrapati Bhavan and Howrah Bridge. The company's first R&D center, established in 1902, was the first Indian in-house R&D unit recognized by the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR). A second R&D center was opened in Nashik in 2009.
